Manny Morales, trumpet, flugelhorn
Manny Morales is thrilled to be sharing his love and passion for music with the students at More than Music. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Performance, Jazz Studies on trumpet with a minor in Psychology at the University of Rhode Island. He is a recipient of the Lee Family, Rebelo, United States Marine and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Scholarships. Principal Jazz teachers include Mark Berney, Eric Bloom, and Tom Santagata.
Recent performances include performing with the URI Big Band Friday morning opening at the 2015 Newport Jazz Festival, performed in collaboration with British star Jaime Cullum closing the 2015 Newport Jazz festival. Performance and with the URI big Band accompanying with Roger Ingram at the Pearl Lounge, Providence.
He is honored to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Other awards and honors include; named to Macy’s All American High School Marching Band, playing in and leading the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Manny was a member of MENC all-eastern high school wind-ensemble, RIMEA all-state jazz band, RIMEA all-state orchestra, RIMEA honors band all-state, and Rhode Island College Honors Wind Ensemble.
In addition to his studies, Manny is the set-up/sound manager for the John Allmark Jazz Orchestra. He is member of the Just Us Jazz Ensemble and hosts Monday Morning Jazz Show from 5:30-8 on WRIU.
Recent performances with local bands “Swingman” and “Gumption and Glory”, Wakefield Civic Band, Guys in Pink; Jazz Trio, The Nightlife Orchestra, RIPYO (Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra) and several area high school musical theater pit orchestras. Every Veteran's and Memorial Day, Manny is humbled to play “Taps” for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Ceremonies.
